Born in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, Jean-Frédéric, count de Perrégaux, set himself up as a banker in Paris and, during the revolution of 1789, speculated on the assignats, the new currency issued by the National Assembly. Founder of an accounting fund in Paris and an associate of claude PERiER,in 1796 he became a senator and regent of the Bank of France.
